About the HardwareRev1 PCB

HardwareRev1 is an open source NXP PCB design by cculpepper, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64 × 45.9 mm, with 59 components from 34 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the AX503, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the PE42424, RF5110G and GPSAnt. By type, the board carries 14 capacitors, 14 resistors, 11 connectors, 5 diodes, 3 ICs and 2 relays.

It belongs with the audio and rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Telemetry module for a HAB or a rocket, or a car, or a....

This is a hardware and software project that aims to be a logger and control module for a high altitude balloon or other device.

The radio board uses the Axsem (ON Semiconductor) AX5043 IC and a power amplifier Currently it is set up for the amateur radio 2M band. The chip can do hardware FSK, GMFSK, AFSK and analog FM. Its a really cool chip. The PA will do a watt, nominally. The board also includes a MCU, Freescale KL26 and GPS module on the back.

HardwareRev1: common questions

What microcontroller does the HardwareRev1 use?

The HardwareRev1 is built around the AX503, from the NXP family.

How big is the HardwareRev1 PCB?

The HardwareRev1 measures 64 × 45.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the HardwareRev1?

59 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the HardwareRev1 design files?

From the cculpepper/APRSDongle repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the HardwareRev1 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cculpepper. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the HardwareRev1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
