This is a hardware and software project that aims to be a logger and control module for a high altitude balloon or other device.
The radio board uses the Axsem (ON Semiconductor) AX5043 IC and a power amplifier Currently it is set up for the amateur radio 2M band. The chip can do hardware FSK, GMFSK, AFSK and analog FM. Its a really cool chip. The PA will do a watt, nominally. The board also includes a MCU, Freescale KL26 and GPS module on the back.

Radio: common questions
What microcontroller does the Radio use?
The Radio is built around the MKL26Z128VLH4, from the NXP family.
How big is the Radio PCB?
The Radio measures 40.9 × 25 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Radio?
89 components, from 52 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Radio design files?
From the cculpepper/APRSDongle repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Radio design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cculpepper. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Radio without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
