About the Crobagotchi PCB

Crobagotchi is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Chris-Johnston, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33 × 55.9 mm, with 10 components from 8 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny85V-10SU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 3 resistors, 2 switches, 1 IC, 1 connector, 1 battery holder and 1 LED.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Raise your own virtual crow 🐦

Crobagotchi combines [Tamagotchi] with the [Crow of Judgement] (also referred to as a "Crob").

It's a portable handheld virtual pet which runs on an ATTiny85 and uses a SSD1306 OLED display powered by a coin cell battery. The custom boards were designed using KiCad and [svg2mod], and the sprite work was done with Aseprite, GIMP, and [image2cpp].

Last year I made a PCB Crow of Judgement, and this year I wanted to iterate on that. Eventually, I got the idea to make a knockoff Tamagotchi, and so I figured this would be a great time to do so.

Crobagotchi: common questions

What microcontroller does the Crobagotchi use?

The Crobagotchi is built around the ATtiny85V-10SU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Crobagotchi PCB?

The Crobagotchi measures 33 × 55.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Crobagotchi?

10 components, from 8 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Crobagotchi design files?

From the Chris-Johnston/crobagotchi repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Crobagotchi design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Chris-Johnston chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Crobagotchi without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
