About the Exp60 PCB

Exp60 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by christian-schulze, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 285.8 × 95.3 mm, with 87 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32U2, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the PRTR5V0U2X. By type, the board carries 66 diodes, 7 capacitors, 6 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal and 1 connector.

Exp60 - An opinionated 60% with arrow keys PCB

I've always preferred the size of a 60%, but never managed to kick the arrow key addiction. Having tried the dz60 and dz64 from kbdfans (dz64 being my fav), they both have trade-offs I've never been quite happy with.

1. 60% form factor, roughly the same size as a GH60. 2. Arrow cluster 3. Standard 2.25U left shift 4. Standard 1U forward slash / question mark key 5. Bottom row should have CTRL, Fn, GUI, ALT and HYPER keys 6. USB-C 7. Hot-swap 8. Hand solderable

Exp60: common questions

What microcontroller does the Exp60 use?

The Exp60 is built around the ATmega32U2, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Exp60 PCB?

The Exp60 measures 285.8 × 95.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Exp60?

87 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Exp60 design files?

From the christian-schulze/exp60 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Exp60 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which christian-schulze chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Exp60 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
