About the Nespole PCB

Nespole is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by coddingtonbear, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 87.9 × 54.9 mm, with 50 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328PB-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MAX6675, CH340G and AS1108. By type, the board carries 16 capacitors, 16 resistors, 6 connectors, 4 ICs, 2 transistors and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the sensors and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

Arduino-hacked laminator controller allowing one to adapt their cheap laminator to heat to a configurable temperature.

Need to control your laminator's temperature precisely because you use it for performing temperature-specific things like applying photosensitive dry film to PCBs or trying out the toner transfer method? This lets you do that.

AmazonBasics Thermal Laminator; ~$21 as of this writing. 120VAC to 5VDC transformer; ~$5 MAX6675 and K-Type thermocouple; ~$5 -- you'll need to remove the chip and mounting pins from the little PCB for attaching to the final board. ATMega328pb microcontroller; ~$2 -- an ATMega328p would probably work just as well, but you may need to double-check the pinouts.…

Nespole: common questions

What microcontroller does the Nespole use?

The Nespole is built around the ATMEGA328PB-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Nespole PCB?

The Nespole measures 87.9 × 54.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Nespole?

50 components, from 29 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Nespole design files?

From the coddingtonbear/nespole repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Nespole design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with coddingtonbear. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Nespole without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
