About the KEMOJO PCB

KEMOJO is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by codesmythe, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 101.6 × 55.9 mm, with 24 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the PC16550D, 74LS138 and 74LS04. By type, the board carries 10 connectors, 5 capacitors, 4 ICs, 1 transistor, 1 crystal and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the keyboards and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

PS/2 keyboard, mouse and joystick support for RCBus based on ATmega328

This board provides PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse and Atari or MSX (single button only) joystick support for an RCBus system. It uses the 40-pin RCBus interface.

The keyboard, mouse and joystick inputs are read by an ATmega 328P microcontoller. (This is the same MCU that is in the Arduino UNO.) The ATmega implements the Atari ST IKBD protcol and communicates that protocol serially to an RCBus system via a 16C550 UART.

KEMOJO: common questions

What microcontroller does the KEMOJO use?

The KEMOJO is built around the ATMEGA328P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the KEMOJO PCB?

The KEMOJO measures 101.6 × 55.9 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the KEMOJO?

24 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the KEMOJO design files?

From the codesmythe/KEMOJO repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the KEMOJO design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with codesmythe. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the KEMOJO without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
