About the TYPING TRAINER v5 PCB

TYPING TRAINER v5 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by cuprice, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 261.1 × 81.5 mm, with 89 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_Every, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP23017_SP. By type, the board carries 32 switches, 32 diodes, 14 resistors, 9 modules, 1 IC and 1 buzzer.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 1 earlier revision of it.

From the project

It's a keyboard for touch typing practice.

I bought a 3D printer and tried changing only some keycaps to a snap-on type. Next, I plan to make a version with surface-mounted diodes and resistors.

TYPING TRAINER v5: common questions

What microcontroller does the TYPING TRAINER v5 use?

The TYPING TRAINER v5 is built around the Arduino_Nano_Every, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the TYPING TRAINER v5 PCB?

The TYPING TRAINER v5 measures 261.1 × 81.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TYPING TRAINER v5?

89 components, from 9 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TYPING TRAINER v5 design files?

From the cuprice/HapticTouchTypingTrainer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TYPING TRAINER v5 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which cuprice chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the TYPING TRAINER v5 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
