About the Macropad PCB

Macropad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by daaminashai, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 81 × 86 mm, with 25 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 12 diodes, 11 switches, 1 IC and 1 LED.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

a custom macropad - made from scratch.

I wanted to boost my productivity and add an aesthetic looking device to my desk setup.

Believe it or not, this was my first time using Fusion 360! I spammed ChatGPT and #hackpad with queries. It also took me a lotta time making the PCB and routing it 😭. I had to reroute a hundred times.

The case features a very hot Orange and Black look with the keycaps being black and Knob being orange too.

Macropad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Macropad use?

The Macropad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Macropad PCB?

The Macropad measures 81 × 86 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Macropad?

25 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Macropad design files?

From the daaminashai/macropad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Macropad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with daaminashai. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Macropad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
