About the Saomr PCB

Saomr is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by davedarko, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40 × 39.8 mm, with 13 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Tiny85-20-SMT, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the SPEAKERKMTG-1102 and SAO-SHITTY-ADDON. By type, the board carries 4 ICs, 3 resistors, 2 capacitors, 1 jumper and 1 transformer.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

This was inspired by the big Mr. Robot badge. SAO that’s supposed to be an I2C soundcard. Piezo has a little amp. Order in afterdark mode.

currently not working the way it's intended, the amplifier section is not working like the bodged Version 1 did.

Saomr: common questions

What microcontroller does the Saomr use?

The Saomr is built around the Tiny85-20-SMT, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Saomr PCB?

The Saomr measures 40 × 39.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Saomr?

13 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Saomr design files?

From the davedarko/Simple-Add-ons-SAO repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Saomr design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with davedarko. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Saomr without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
