About the MembraneKeyboard PCB

MembraneKeyboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by davidmpye, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 50 mm, with 11 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 5 resistors, 3 connectors, 2 transistors and 1 IC.

From the project

Code, PCB design and 3d printed bits to convert our vending machine to a Pi-based solution

Matrix-keyboard is a Pi Pico + small PCB designed to connect to the vending machine matrix keypad header and emulate a USB keyboard for feeding these input events to the Pi.

The firmware also provides postcard-rpc endpoints (see keyboard-icd subfolder) to allow the Host to set the text and control the backlight of an optionally attached I2C LCD (the schematic includes 3v3->5v level shifting to ensure reliable operation with 5V-driven LCDs

MembraneKeyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the MembraneKeyboard use?

The MembraneKeyboard is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the MembraneKeyboard PCB?

The MembraneKeyboard measures 60 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MembraneKeyboard?

11 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MembraneKeyboard design files?

From the davidmpye/snackbot repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MembraneKeyboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which davidmpye chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MembraneKeyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
