About the Pcb lab v2 base

Pcb lab v2 base is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by dddrrreee, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64.5 × 25 mm, with 8 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RASPBERRY_PI_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family. By type, the board carries 3 diodes, 3 capacitors and 2 connectors.

NOTE: KiCAD 10 was released last month (March 2026). I made this lab on KiCAD 9, but feel free to try KiCAD 10 and let me know if anything major has changed.

Our goal is to create a board that can plug into the Raspberry Pi GPIO header and connect to a USB to UART converter along with some RGB LEDs. To extend the lab, you'll also add in connections to a few sensors/peripherals/hardware of your choice.

Pcb lab v2 base: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pcb lab v2 base use?

The Pcb lab v2 base is built around the RASPBERRY_PI_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Pcb lab v2 base?

The Pcb lab v2 base measures 64.5 × 25 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pcb lab v2 base?

8 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pcb lab v2 base design files?

From the dddrrreee/cs240lx-26spr repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pcb lab v2 base design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with dddrrreee. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pcb lab v2 base without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
