About the Pcb lab v2 base

Pcb lab v2 base is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by dddrrreee, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64.5 × 25 mm, with 8 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family. By type, the board carries 3 diodes, 3 capacitors and 2 connectors.

Our goal is to create a board that can plug into the Raspberry Pi GPIO header and connect to a USB to UART converter along with some RGB LEDs. To extend the lab, you'll also add in connections to a few sensors/peripherals/hardware of your choice.

Please review PRELAB.md. If interested, you can also check out a previous version of the lab here. In the original version of the lab, we focused on designing a board with NRF24L01 wireless transceivers. You can use that board for inspiration if you'd prefer to do something a little more…

Pcb lab v2 base: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pcb lab v2 base use?

The Pcb lab v2 base is built around the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Pcb lab v2 base?

The Pcb lab v2 base measures 64.5 × 25 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pcb lab v2 base?

8 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pcb lab v2 base design files?

From the dddrrreee/cs340lx-25aut repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pcb lab v2 base design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which dddrrreee chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Pcb lab v2 base without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
