About the Programmer PCB

Programmer is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by derpflanz, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 57.2 × 73.7 mm, with 3 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LS273 and KM62256CLP. By type, the board carries 2 ICs and 1 module.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

This is my hobby project in making a 6502 based 8-bit computer from scratch. The end goal is to have it run Castle Runner, a game I made many moons ago.

This is my hobby project in making a 6502 based 8-bit computer from scratch. The end goal is to have it run Castle Runner, a game I made many moons ago.

Castle Runner is built from scratch, including the assembler (new version, written in C). I created my own assembly language dialect to assemble the machine language code. That ML can then be written to a EEPROM. For which I built my own EEPROM programmer.

Programmer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Programmer use?

The Programmer is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Programmer PCB?

The Programmer measures 57.2 × 73.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Programmer?

3 components, from 3 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Programmer design files?

From the derpflanz/castle-runner repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Programmer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with derpflanz. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Programmer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
