Processing PCB layout, top view — open source AVR/Arduino board by directionizer

About the Processing PCB

Processing is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by directionizer, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64 × 64 mm, with 28 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the CH340G. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 6 resistors, 5 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 crystals and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

Schematics and design files for a handheld device to locate an audio beacon

Directionizer is a student project by Mason Ahner, Jared Beller, and John Fiorini for the spring 2021 session of ECE 2804 at Virginia Tech. The "directionizer" is a handheld device for locating a 1 kHz audio beacon. This repository contains KiCad schematics and PCBs for the directionizer hardware.

The original design made during prototyping can be found in schematic. This was broken into three individual boards, which are stacked to form the final device. From bottom to top, the boards are processing, audio, and display. Each board's schematic and layout is in it's respective folder. For…

Processing: common questions

What microcontroller does the Processing use?

The Processing is built around the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Processing PCB?

The Processing measures 64 × 64 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Processing?

28 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Processing design files?

From the directionizer/df-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Processing design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which directionizer chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Processing without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
