About the MacroMacro PCB

MacroMacro is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by doesntfazer, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 229.2 × 116.9 mm, with 104 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the rp2040-zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 51 switches, 51 diodes, 1 IC and 1 LED.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

If you're looking to build one of your own, you can upload the Macropad-gerber.zip from the gerber folder to JLCPCB.

If you don't feel like sodering diodes, you can upload the File in the BOM folder, along with the macropad-bottom-pos.csv in the PIP folder.

You will need to solder in your hot swap sockets though. I didn't use a hot-swap Footprint that was ready for manufacturing, unfortunately. You're welcome to do this if you want to have everything but the MCU assembled by JLCPCB.

MacroMacro: common questions

What microcontroller does the MacroMacro use?

The MacroMacro is built around the rp2040-zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the MacroMacro PCB?

The MacroMacro measures 229.2 × 116.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MacroMacro?

104 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MacroMacro design files?

From the doesntfazer/MacroMacro repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MacroMacro design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which doesntfazer chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MacroMacro without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
