About the Bluetooth smart light switch PCB

Bluetooth smart light switch is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by dossalab, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 24 × 53 mm, with 31 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the nRF52832-QFxx, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 6 resistors, 5 connectors, 4 diodes, 3 inductors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

Remote controlled cord light switch (Bluetooth LE)

Before building, read this carefully (especially Safety guidelines)

This project aims to create a remote-controlled, smart cord light switch. It has both physical control button and Bluetooth LE capabilities, allowing for a very natural user experience.

This repo contains both PCB design and firmware.

Hardware seems to work, but has barely been tested in the field. The high voltage part is rated at 220-230V / 50 Hz (European-ish standard). It should be trivial to recalculate the supply for the US standard.

Bluetooth smart light switch: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bluetooth smart light switch use?

The Bluetooth smart light switch is built around the nRF52832-QFxx, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Bluetooth smart light switch PCB?

The Bluetooth smart light switch measures 24 × 53 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bluetooth smart light switch?

31 components, from 23 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bluetooth smart light switch design files?

From the dossalab/bluetooth-smart-light-switch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bluetooth smart light switch design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with dossalab. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Bluetooth smart light switch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
