Kinesis Advantage 2 Redux
I've been an avid Kinesis Advantage 2 (KA2) user for years, but recently I felt the urge to explore alternative switch options beyond the classic Cherry MX. Unfortunately, Kinesis stopped offering replacement PCBs around 2022-2023, and my soldering skills aren't quite up to the challenge of a DIY swap.
That's why this project exists: to completely rewire your KA2 with custom-designed PCBs, giving you the flexibility to use any switches you desire without having to deal with the complexity of preserving or desoldering the original boards. This build leverages the powerful QMK firmware and…

Kinesis-2040: common questions
What microcontroller does the Kinesis-2040 use?
The Kinesis-2040 is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.
How big is the Kinesis-2040 PCB?
The Kinesis-2040 measures 108 × 86 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Kinesis-2040?
12 components, from 8 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Kinesis-2040 design files?
From the fomichev/kinesis-advantage-2-redux repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Kinesis-2040 design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which fomichev chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Kinesis-2040 without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
