About the Control module

Control module is an open source STM32 PCB design by gabebuckmaster, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 96 × 40 mm, with 68 components from 38 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F042C6T6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the UC3843BD1G, AZ1117EH-3.3 and DS3231MZ. By type, the board carries 21 resistors, 19 capacitors, 9 connectors, 5 transistors, 4 ICs and 4 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds, robotics & motion and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

A minimalist nixie tube clock design in a cnc-machined hardwood case using IN12B tubes.

This PCB includes the microcontroller, a temperature compensated real time clock IC with battery backup, and the boost converter that generates the 180V supply for the nixie tubes.

Control module: common questions

What microcontroller does the Control module use?

The Control module is built around the STM32F042C6T6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Control module?

The Control module measures 96 × 40 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Control module?

68 components, from 38 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Control module design files?

From the gabebuckmaster/nixie_clock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Control module design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which gabebuckmaster chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Control module without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
