IoT Core hardware combined STM32 + ESP8266

Wifi IoT Core project is to combine STM32 + ESP8266.

- ESP8266 is an amazing but cheap wifi chip. However it has many limitions, such as: no USB, limited analog interface, few I/O etc, while applications which are developed on it often need USB-Serial communication. Therefore many ESP8266-based modules in the world are added USB-TTL chip. While this brings some value to developing work, the value is just little in practical use. The design in this Wifi IoT Core project uses the cheap STM32, with USB interface, to ease development, and complements many other features which are missing in…

Wifi iot core hw: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wifi iot core hw use?

The Wifi iot core hw is built around the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Wifi iot core hw PCB?

The Wifi iot core hw measures 31.8 × 58.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wifi iot core hw?

45 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wifi iot core hw design files?

From the genuine-engineering/wifi-iot-core-hw repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wifi iot core hw design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with genuine-engineering. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Wifi iot core hw without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
