About the My custom macropad PCB

My custom macropad is an open source Microchip SAM PCB design by GodOfStrategy, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 69.1 × 42.9 mm, with 5 components from 2 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-SAMD21-DIP, from the Microchip SAM family. By type, the board carries 4 switches and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Made with and for Blueprint @ Hackclub. It is my personal hackpad, with the keys W,A,S,D with various utility.

My hackpad uses: 1. XIAO-SAMD21-DIP as the MCU (sourced from Hackclub hq) 2. 4 push switches as my keys.(sourced from Hackclub hq) 3. 4 Cherry MX keycaps. (3D printed or sourced from Hackclub HQ)

I modeled my Case for it in Fusion 360, it has a cutout for the USB port.(This is the assembled case)

The unassembled case: When I recieved my PCBs, I quickly assembled one of them, by soldering the Xiao and the switches, this is how it looked:

My custom macropad: common questions

What microcontroller does the My custom macropad use?

The My custom macropad is built around the XIAO-SAMD21-DIP, from the Microchip SAM family.

How big is the My custom macropad PCB?

The My custom macropad measures 69.1 × 42.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the My custom macropad?

5 components, from 2 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the My custom macropad design files?

From the GodOfStrategy/My-custom-macropad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the My custom macropad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with GodOfStrategy. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the My custom macropad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
