Open Source Digital Microfluidics Bio Lab

OpenDrop is a new design for an open source digital microfludics platform for research purposes. The device uses recent electro-wetting technology to control small droplets of liquids. Potential applications are lab on a chip devices for automating processes of digital biology. How ever the present design should also open the technology to other field and allow experimentation to find new applications. Including the field of art, music, games and education.

ModulAdapter universal: common questions

What microcontroller does the ModulAdapter universal use?

The ModulAdapter universal is built around the SAMD21G18B, from the Microchip SAM family.

How big is the ModulAdapter universal PCB?

The ModulAdapter universal measures 100 × 69.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ModulAdapter universal?

45 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ModulAdapter universal design files?

From the GaudiLabs/OpenDrop repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ModulAdapter universal design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which GaudiLabs chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ModulAdapter universal without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
