About the Openscex bare PCB

Openscex bare is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by gufranco, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 35.6 × 21.6 mm, with 3 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY85-20PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 1 IC, 1 capacitor and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

Stealth SCEx region-unlock modchip firmware for PlayStation and PSone on an ATtiny84: console-clocked, lid-sensed disc swaps, one region per build, MISRA C:2012 clean, fully tested logic

Region-unlock firmware for the original Sony PlayStation (fat) and PSone, on an ATtiny85 running from its internal oscillator, which it trims against the console's own SUBQ frame rate. It emits the configured region string inside the SUBQ region-check window, stops the moment the console accepts it, and leaves the data line high-impedance during play. It needs no lid wire: it knows a disc was swapped when SUBQ goes quiet while the drive is…

Openscex bare: common questions

What microcontroller does the Openscex bare use?

The Openscex bare is built around the ATTINY85-20PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Openscex bare PCB?

The Openscex bare measures 35.6 × 21.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Openscex bare?

3 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Openscex bare design files?

From the gufranco/openscex-modchip repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Openscex bare design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which gufranco chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Openscex bare without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
