About the Octoboard PCB

Octoboard is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by hhhug000, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 45 × 74.5 mm, with 27 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328P-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM7805_TO220. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 8 capacitors, 4 diodes, 3 resistors, 2 ICs and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

An 8 bit microcontroller dev board for the ATMEGA328P-PU

An ATmega328P-PU development board designed from scratch in KiCad for prototyping AVR projects without breadboard mess. It uses only THT components to simplify soldering, and does not use an onboard serial chip to save on cost and simplicity

Octoboard breaks out all the GPIO from the chip, and provides all power management and supporting hardware.

The BOM is for 5 boards, as that is the minimum I can buy from JLCPCB and some parts

Octoboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Octoboard use?

The Octoboard is built around the ATmega328P-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Octoboard PCB?

The Octoboard measures 45 × 74.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Octoboard?

27 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Octoboard design files?

From the hhhug000/octoboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Octoboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which hhhug000 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Octoboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
