About the HackPad PCB

HackPad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by hitenpanda, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 114.1 × 77 mm, with 36 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 25 diodes, 9 switches, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

This is a custom-made Advanced HackPad, which is coded to be used for your own services. It has a screen to help you monitor activities, it is customisable too. Also, has different menus but that is configured for me. You can make use of this project to create your own customised hackpad that is unique to you.

A custom parametric mechanical macropad powered by the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040. Designed, routed in KiCad, and modeled in Fusion 360 for the Hack Club Blueprint initiative.

To give reviewers insight into the design process, here is the technical breakdown of the hardware environment and enclosure architecture.

The Reference PCB (Global Zero): The PCB was exported from KiCad as a .step file. It serves as the absolute "Global Zero" for all sketch planes. All enclosure components are built on the underside of the board (Negative Z-axis) to ensure pin clearance. The Chassis Floor: Traced…

HackPad: common questions

What microcontroller does the HackPad use?

The HackPad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the HackPad PCB?

The HackPad measures 114.1 × 77 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the HackPad?

36 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the HackPad design files?

From the hitenpanda/HackPad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the HackPad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with hitenpanda. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the HackPad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
