About the Falcon CAN Module

Falcon CAN Module is an open source STM32 PCB design by hpvdt, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 50 × 21 mm, with 55 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TCA6408ARSVR, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the TLV70033DCKR, BL9161G-33, TPS7A8101, ADS131M03IRUK and TCAN3403. By type, the board carries 25 capacitors, 15 resistors, 6 ICs, 6 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 inductor.

From the project

General purpose modules for handling wing duties

The designs for the wing module reside here. The module is an evolution of two separate boards on Falcon: the distributed voltage regulators (servoregulator), and the spar load sensing boards (sparsensor). As such, their design files are included in this repository for reference in addition to the actual wing module design files.

All designs were made in KiCad, version 9.0 as of writing.

Falcon CAN Module: common questions

What microcontroller does the Falcon CAN Module use?

The Falcon CAN Module is built around the TCA6408ARSVR, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Falcon CAN Module?

The Falcon CAN Module measures 50 × 21 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Falcon CAN Module?

55 components, from 27 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Falcon CAN Module design files?

From the hpvdt/falcon_wing_module repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Falcon CAN Module design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with hpvdt. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Falcon CAN Module without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
