About the Compact custom keyboard PCB

Compact custom keyboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by HugoBrisebois, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 297.5 × 97.7 mm, with 135 components from 62 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 72 diodes, 62 switches and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

this is a custom keyboard that allows the user to customize their workflow

This is a compact Keyboard the is powered by a raspberry pi pico and is a hotswapable kailth choc mini keyswitches, the keyboard also has LEDs that can be used for a aestetic lighting and as light to see what you are typing. The Keyboard is also a 60% keyboard meaning that it is quite small while not having too many layers like a 40% one.

Compact custom keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Compact custom keyboard use?

The Compact custom keyboard is built around the Raspberry_Pi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Compact custom keyboard PCB?

The Compact custom keyboard measures 297.5 × 97.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Compact custom keyboard?

135 components, from 62 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Compact custom keyboard design files?

From the HugoBrisebois/compact_custom_keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Compact custom keyboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which HugoBrisebois chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Compact custom keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
