About the Grooveboard atmel mu PCB

Grooveboard atmel mu is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by ianklug, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 118.1 × 22.9 mm, with 24 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C45874, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 7 resistors, 4 LEDs, 1 IC, 1 crystal and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A four-key mechanical keyboard for rhythm games.

Special thanks to Sebastiaan Swinkels for technical assistance.

Please clone this repository using the --recurse-submodules flag. Some of the required symbol and footprint libraries will not be included otherwise.

Please note that the RP2040 models are functional at a hardware level, but software is incomplete.

The 2.x versions (grooveboard-rp) use the RP2040 MCU, and require different firmware from the 1.x versions. They also include a few new features and refinements over the 1.x models, including M2 mounting holes and improved key spacing.

Grooveboard atmel mu: common questions

What microcontroller does the Grooveboard atmel mu use?

The Grooveboard atmel mu is built around the C45874, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Grooveboard atmel mu PCB?

The Grooveboard atmel mu measures 118.1 × 22.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Grooveboard atmel mu?

24 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Grooveboard atmel mu design files?

From the ianklug/grooveboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Grooveboard atmel mu design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which ianklug chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Grooveboard atmel mu without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
