About the Grooveboard rp PCB

Grooveboard rp is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by ianklug, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 120 × 25 mm, with 37 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the C190862 and C51118. By type, the board carries 16 capacitors, 8 resistors, 4 relays, 3 ICs, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A four-key mechanical keyboard for rhythm games.

Special thanks to Sebastiaan Swinkels for technical assistance.

Please clone this repository using the --recurse-submodules flag. Some of the required symbol and footprint libraries will not be included otherwise.

Please note that the RP2040 models are functional at a hardware level, but software is incomplete.

The 2.x versions (grooveboard-rp) use the RP2040 MCU, and require different firmware from the 1.x versions. They also include a few new features and refinements over the 1.x models, including M2 mounting holes and improved key spacing.

Grooveboard rp: common questions

What microcontroller does the Grooveboard rp use?

The Grooveboard rp is built around the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Grooveboard rp PCB?

The Grooveboard rp measures 120 × 25 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Grooveboard rp?

37 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Grooveboard rp design files?

From the ianklug/grooveboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Grooveboard rp design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which ianklug chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Grooveboard rp without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
