About the ICECART-GB PCB

ICECART-GB is an open source STM32 PCB design by ice-bergtech, published on GitHub under the MPL-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 51.4 × 61 mm, with 106 components from 49 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F407ZGTX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the HT7550, IS66WVS4M8BLL-104NLI and ES8388. By type, the board carries 51 capacitors, 29 resistors, 5 connectors, 4 ICs, 4 LEDs and 3 diodes.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

A ROM cartridge for the Gameboy

The power LED (+ resistor) and the bypass capacitor are optional. The value of R1 might be too high to get enough current for the LED and can be replaced with a lower value if necessary. The value is set quite high to minimize power usage and still works fine with the components I use. * All parts in the BOM can be replaced with pretty much any similar parts.

ICECART-GB: common questions

What microcontroller does the ICECART-GB use?

The ICECART-GB is built around the STM32F407ZGTX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the ICECART-GB PCB?

The ICECART-GB measures 51.4 × 61 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.9912 mm thick.

How many components are on the ICECART-GB?

106 components, from 49 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ICECART-GB design files?

From the ice-bergtech/Icecart-GB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ICECART-GB design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MPL-2.0 license, which ice-bergtech chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ICECART-GB without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
