About the Arduino socket PCB

Arduino socket is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Iver-Iscariot, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40.6 × 41.6 mm, with 10 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the L7805. By type, the board carries 4 capacitors, 3 connectors, 1 IC and 1 module.

From the project

A stackable/expandable design for a clock to show the local-time of the members of my club in different timezones

Originally designed for use in Omega Verksted, as several members exchanged to different timezones.

The modules are chained together with one MCU at the end. The timezone for each module is set using the dip switch, and read to the MCU by shift registers. The corresponding numbers for 7-seg displays are then sent out on further registers. The dip-switch also instructs weather its the last in the chain, and if its supposed to show the minutes or the hours of the zone. The clock is design to be installed in two rows, one for hours and one for minutes

Arduino socket: common questions

What microcontroller does the Arduino socket use?

The Arduino socket is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Arduino socket PCB?

The Arduino socket measures 40.6 × 41.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Arduino socket?

10 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Arduino socket design files?

From the Iver-Iscariot/timezone-shiftregister-clock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Arduino socket design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Iver-Iscariot. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Arduino socket without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
