Fieldratchet is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by JacobFV, published on GitHub. It is a board, with 187 components from 64 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040 coproc, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AM62 SoC, ICE40 FPGA, W25Q flash, LPDDR4 and TPS5450 5V. By type, the board carries 64 capacitors, 32 resistors, 30 ICs, 24 transistors, 13 connectors and 8 diodes.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A recursively self-improving AI for PCB design: KiCad schematic in, placed & routed board out — getting measurably better on every iteration. Electron app + CLI.

A recursively self-improving AI for PCB design. Feed it a KiCad schematic (.kicadsch); it parses, classifies, places, routes, and scores a real KiCad board (.kicadpcb) — and gets measurably better on every iteration. It ships as both an Electron desktop app (with clickable example boards) and a CLI (batch mode), and it runs fully offline: no kicad-cli, no network, no API keys.

Fieldratchet: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fieldratchet use?

The Fieldratchet is built around the RP2040 coproc, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How many components are on the Fieldratchet?

187 components, from 64 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fieldratchet design files?

From the JacobFV/fieldratchet repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fieldratchet design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with JacobFV. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Fieldratchet without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
