About the Hv PCB

Hv is an open source PCB design by jason-watkins, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 85 × 55 mm, with 47 components from 42 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LM5156H. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 12 capacitors, 7 diodes, 3 transistors, 2 connectors and 2 test points.

It belongs with the displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

USB-C powered nixie tube clock. Four IN-12B digits, two INS-1 colon lamps, K155ID1 BCD decoder/drivers.

USB-PD negotiates 5-12V supply and feeds it into 3 converters:

- Flyback boost: 170V for the tube anodes - 3.3V buck boost for the MCU. Boost exists to make sure a 3.3V FTDI type UART adapter provides the full 3.3V to the rail. - 5V buck for the BCD drivers, bypassed if the source itself is 5V

Hv: common questions

How big is the Hv PCB?

The Hv measures 85 × 55 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hv?

47 components, from 42 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hv design files?

From the jason-watkins/nixie-clock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hv design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which jason-watkins chose for the repository.
