About the ReCIA-MAX10 PCB

ReCIA-MAX10 is an open source FPGA PCB design by jbilander, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 17.4 × 51.4 mm, with 31 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the 10M02SCU169, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3, SN74CBT16210 and 8520_DIP_SOCKET. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 5 ICs, 5 resistors, 2 diodes, 1 crystal and 1 connector.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

This is WORK IN PROGRESS. If you generate gerbers and order PCBs from this source you are doing so completely at your own risk!.

Current design is based on an intel/altera 10 Max FPGA but this is mostly so we can signal tap and record how a real 8520 behaves. The oscillator on board is 10 MHz and the PLL on the Max 10 can take this clock and make a perfect 28.375 MHz or a 28.636 MHz clock signal which will be nice to base the logic on instead of the E-CLK.

ReCIA-MAX10: common questions

What microcontroller does the ReCIA-MAX10 use?

The ReCIA-MAX10 is built around the 10M02SCU169, from the FPGA family.

How big is the ReCIA-MAX10 PCB?

The ReCIA-MAX10 measures 17.4 × 51.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ReCIA-MAX10?

31 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ReCIA-MAX10 design files?

From the jbilander/ReCIA repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ReCIA-MAX10 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jbilander. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ReCIA-MAX10 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
