About the CHOCOBOard PCB

CHOCOBOard is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jeremygam, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 303.8 × 94.3 mm, with 102 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 7 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 connector and 1 switch.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

a suite of custom low profile mechanical keyboards

note that I wanted to rename the project from CHOCOBOard to spritzgeback, but KiCAD doesn't handle renaming easily so I've kept the original name here

CHOCOBOard: common questions

What microcontroller does the CHOCOBOard use?

The CHOCOBOard is built around the ATMEGA32U4, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the CHOCOBOard PCB?

The CHOCOBOard measures 303.8 × 94.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the CHOCOBOard?

102 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CHOCOBOard design files?

From the jeremygam/spritzgeback repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CHOCOBOard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which jeremygam chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the CHOCOBOard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
