About the Pan-Tilt-Scanner PCB

Pan-Tilt-Scanner is an open source STM32 PCB design by jhuang0701, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 80 × 60 mm, with 34 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LM2596S-5, AP2112K-3.3 and Pololu_Breakout_A4988. By type, the board carries 15 capacitors, 7 connectors, 3 ICs, 2 modules, 2 diodes and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

A two-axis pan/tilt scanner controller designed in KiCad. The project includes the schematic, PCB, a schematic PDF export, a grouped bill of materials, and fabrication outputs. The supplied project files show two Pololu A4988 stepper-driver carrier modules controlled by an STM32F

The board provides control and power circuitry for two stepper-driven axes. An STM32F103C8Tx microcontroller interfaces with two Pololu A4988 carrier modules. An LM2596S-5 switching regulator and an AP2112K-3.3 linear regulator provide the board's 5 V and 3.3 V rails.

Pan-Tilt-Scanner: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pan-Tilt-Scanner use?

The Pan-Tilt-Scanner is built around the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Pan-Tilt-Scanner PCB?

The Pan-Tilt-Scanner measures 80 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pan-Tilt-Scanner?

34 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pan-Tilt-Scanner design files?

From the jhuang0701/Pan-Tilt-Scanner repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pan-Tilt-Scanner design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jhuang0701. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pan-Tilt-Scanner without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
