About the Throttle tune PCB

Throttle tune is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Jonny999999, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 74.7 × 69.1 mm, with 51 components from 39 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA8A-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM7805 and LM358N. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 12 resistors, 10 connectors, 9 test points, 3 ICs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

onversion of an old gasoline lawn tractor to an electric vehicle

A microcontroller-based board with a PWM-based analog output (RC filter + buffer) to emulate a DAC. The goal is to improve throttle response and add configurable driving modes to cheap BLDC motor controllers (e.g. 3000 W BLDC "go-kart kit" controllers).

Currently it is used in the electric Kettcar conversion with a 3000 W BLDC drive, this board fixes the controller’s unusable throttle mapping and makes the vehicle smooth and controllable adding a lot of flexibility.

Throttle tune: common questions

What microcontroller does the Throttle tune use?

The Throttle tune is built around the ATMEGA8A-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Throttle tune PCB?

The Throttle tune measures 74.7 × 69.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Throttle tune?

51 components, from 39 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Throttle tune design files?

From the Jonny999999/throttle-tune repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Throttle tune design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Jonny999999. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Throttle tune without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
