About the VEXTREME-VXCOOP PCB

VEXTREME-VXCOOP is an open source STM32 PCB design by jonskiv, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 48 × 66.1 mm, with 47 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F411RCTx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LM1117-3.3, 74HC32, SN74LVC8T245DB and W25Q128. By type, the board carries 13 diodes, 13 capacitors, 6 resistors, 5 ICs, 3 connectors and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

VXCOOP fork of VEXTREME

VEXTREME-VXCOOP is a fork of technobly/VEXTREME, the base multicart hardware and firmware. This fork adds VXT, a cooperative dual-CPU game framework built on top of that hardware, plus VX-COOP and a handful of smaller example carts that demonstrate it. That includes code/stm32/vxt/ and code/app6809/vxt/ (the toolkit itself), code/stm32/gamelib/ (STM32-side drawing math built on it), the VOOM port (code/stm32/game/voomsmart.c and code/app6809/VOOM/), and every example cart (code/stm32/vxcoop/ and code/app6809/{VXCOOP,test1led,test6c,test8cal}/`) — see the VXT Toolkit section further down for…

VEXTREME-VXCOOP: common questions

What microcontroller does the VEXTREME-VXCOOP use?

The VEXTREME-VXCOOP is built around the STM32F411RCTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the VEXTREME-VXCOOP PCB?

The VEXTREME-VXCOOP measures 48 × 66.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the VEXTREME-VXCOOP?

47 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the VEXTREME-VXCOOP design files?

From the jonskiv/VEXTREME-VXCOOP repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the VEXTREME-VXCOOP design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which jonskiv chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the VEXTREME-VXCOOP without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
