About the Hub16 PCB

Hub16 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by joshajohnson, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 89 × 100 mm, with 121 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6 and CY7C65632-28LTXCT. By type, the board carries 38 capacitors, 28 diodes, 16 relays, 16 resistors, 6 ICs and 5 connectors.

It belongs with the keyboards and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

A macro pad with 16 keys, two rotary encoders, a four port USB hub, and plenty of LEDs!

Hub16 is a macropad with a bunch of features you never knew you needed. They include:

- 16 Cherry MX compatible keys, along with switches in each encoder. - Two rotary encoders, enabling intuitive controls for a wide range of tools including CAD and photo / video editing. - Inbuilt USB 2.0 Hub with Type-C connectors, allowing connection to other keyboards, memory sticks, wireless receivers and more! - VIA and QMK compatibility, including a "macro" mode enabling the keys to be dynamically remapped on a host computer. - 11 addressable RGB LEDs to display state, or just light your desk up.

Hub16: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hub16 use?

The Hub16 is built around the ATMEGA32U4, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Hub16 PCB?

The Hub16 measures 89 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hub16?

121 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hub16 design files?

From the joshajohnson/Hub16 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hub16 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which joshajohnson chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Hub16 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
