About the Motor PCB

Motor is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Just4Stan, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 60 × 80 mm, with 60 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C7203002, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the XT30PW-M, C2150576 and TPS560430XFDBVT. By type, the board carries 18 test points, 17 capacitors, 14 resistors, 6 ICs, 4 connectors and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

RP2040-based AZ/EL rotator controller for SatNOGS-compatible satellite ground stations. Custom PCB, PID motor control, EasyComm/hamlib protocol over USB.

Portable, SatNOGS-compatible ground station for the AetherSpace CubeSat at 433 MHz. Built as a joint Master's thesis at KU Leuven (Campus Geel), 2025–2026.

This project is a deliberate alternative to the canonical SatNOGS receive stack. A fully capable SatNOGS ground station can be built with a Raspberry Pi 3, the official satnogs-client, an RTL-SDR dongle, and any hamlib-compatible rotator — and for receiving arbitrary amateur satellites that is the right choice. We built this station instead because:

Motor: common questions

What microcontroller does the Motor use?

The Motor is built around the C7203002, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Motor PCB?

The Motor measures 60 × 80 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.2 mm thick.

How many components are on the Motor?

60 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Motor design files?

From the Just4Stan/SatNOGS-Basestation repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Motor design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Just4Stan. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Motor without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
