About the Openkey cps1-dev PCB

Openkey cps1-dev is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jwestfall69, published on GitHub under the Unlicense license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 108.3 × 94.3 mm, with 21 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtinyxx4, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 11 connectors, 5 jumpers, 2 diodes, 1 IC, 1 switch and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

CPS 1/1.5 B-21 programmer

As you can see its a bit taller then the non-dev version to allow being able to change the selected game and re-program the firmware while the board is plugged into a cps1 A-B-C stack. The 2 diodes ensure that USB power can only goto the ATtiny and that cps1 board power doesn't goto the USB.

After programming the ATtiny you will want to disconnect it from USB and either power-on or powercycle the cps1 board. This is to ensure power is fully removed from the ATtiny so it will boot up normally when cps1 power is applied.

Openkey cps1-dev: common questions

What microcontroller does the Openkey cps1-dev use?

The Openkey cps1-dev is built around the ATtinyxx4, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Openkey cps1-dev PCB?

The Openkey cps1-dev measures 108.3 × 94.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Openkey cps1-dev?

21 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Openkey cps1-dev design files?

From the jwestfall69/openkey-cps1 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Openkey cps1-dev design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Unlicense license, which jwestfall69 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Openkey cps1-dev without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
