About the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface PCB

Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jzkmath, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 71.6 × 53.3 mm, with 13 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 6N138. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 3 resistors, 1 IC and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Uses an Arduino Mega and a custom Shield PCB to drive 14/32 solenoids via MIDI

This design is based off the Adafruit Crikit and MIDI Solenoid Drumkit that they did, but instead uses a non-blocking delay and can handle more solenoids. The Solenoids are connected to 5V/12V and a Darlington Array (ULN2003A) connects the negative to ground when turned on.

Just like in the Adafuit version, the first solenoid corresponds to a C1 (MIDI Note #24) and the following solenoids correspond to the following notes in chromatic order.

Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface use?

The Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface is built around the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface PCB?

The Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface measures 71.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface?

13 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface design files?

From the jzkmath/Arduino-MIDI-Solenoid-Drumkit repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which jzkmath chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Pluralsight Drumkit RevB Interface without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
