About the PR1SM PCB

PR1SM is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by KaiPereira, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 354.8 × 128.2 mm, with 359 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 179 diodes, 89 switches, 89 capacitors, 1 IC and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A minimalistic, stacked fully backlit acrylic keyboard using a small 2 layer pcb

PR1SM is a minimalistic, stacked acrylic keyboard with neopixel backlight, running on KMK. It's built on a cheap, compact 2 layer PCB and has a fully fledged TKL (tenkeyless) layout.

I used Onshape to design my keyboard like all of my projects. It was a bit tricky, because everything needed to be stock size and was going to be laser cut, so I couldn't have like partially cut in designs that a 3D printer could accomplish.

PR1SM: common questions

What microcontroller does the PR1SM use?

The PR1SM is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the PR1SM PCB?

The PR1SM measures 354.8 × 128.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PR1SM?

359 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PR1SM design files?

From the KaiPereira/PR1SM repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PR1SM design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with KaiPereira. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the PR1SM without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
