About the Rp2040-gamepad PCB
Rp2040-gamepad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by KarrarNawazkhan, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 151 × 71 mm, with 35 components from 15 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3, W25Q16JVSS and USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 9 switches, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors and 2 diodes.
From the project
USB-C HID game controller built around the RP2040 , full KiCad PCB design from schematic to fabrication-ready Gerbers
A custom 2-layer PCB design for a USB-C HID game controller built around the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller. Inspired by the classic Sega Genesis 3-button layout, designed end-to-end in KiCad 9 — from datasheet study through fabrication-ready output.
This project takes the official RP2040 datasheet and turns it into a manufacturable PCB. The board provides 8 button inputs over USB-C and is designed to enumerate as a standard HID gamepad on any host PC.

Rp2040-gamepad: common questions
What microcontroller does the Rp2040-gamepad use?
The Rp2040-gamepad is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.
How big is the Rp2040-gamepad PCB?
The Rp2040-gamepad measures 151 × 71 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Rp2040-gamepad?
35 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Rp2040-gamepad design files?
From the KarrarNawazkhan/rp2040-gamepad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Rp2040-gamepad design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with KarrarNawazkhan. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Rp2040-gamepad without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
