About the Main board

Main board is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by m0xpd, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 108 × 88 mm, with 124 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TL084P, 4081, MCP9422 and 78LXX. By type, the board carries 69 resistors, 18 diodes, 16 capacitors, 9 ICs, 5 jumpers and 4 transistors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

This folder contains details of STRACHEY's Main Board which you seen below (component side)

You can download the main board's schematic as a .sch file into your PCB program (KiCad etc) or see a PDF version.

The Main Board hosts power supplies, the Arduino Nano, the DACs, output drivers, input protection and conditioning circuits, the Turing Machine Expansion port, and interface to the control Board.

Main board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Main board use?

The Main board is built around the ARDUINO_NANO, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Main board?

The Main board measures 108 × 88 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Main board?

124 components, from 26 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Main board design files?

From the m0xpd/STRACHEY repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Main board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which m0xpd chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Main board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
