About the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat

Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat is an open source FPGA PCB design by m1geo, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 65 × 56 mm, with 153 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XC7A50T-FGG484, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the BL24C256A and AP62200TWU-7. By type, the board carries 100 capacitors, 27 resistors, 8 inductors, 6 ICs, 5 jumpers and 4 connectors.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

An AMD/Xilinx Artix 50T FPGA on a Pi5 Hat with PCIe and GPIO interconnects as well as SPI programming

An AMD/Xilinx Artix 50T FPGA on a Pi5 Hat with PCIe and GPIO interconnects as well as SPI programming using XC7A50T-2FGG484C.

The project uses a 4-layer PCB (which means some of the routing is a bit sub-optimal)!

The project includes pick-and-place and LCSC BoM files for JLCPCB PCBA services.

Both SPI programming and PCIe have been tested and are functional.

The PCB design files are inside the PCB folder, along with the schematic in the PCB/outputs/ folder.

Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat use?

The Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat is built around the XC7A50T-FGG484, from the FPGA family.

How big is the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat?

The Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat measures 65 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat?

153 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat design files?

From the m1geo/Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which m1geo chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Pi5-Artix-FPGA-Hat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
