About the Bus beaglebone PCB

Bus beaglebone is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by makerbus, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 50 mm, with 44 components from 31 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA324_DIP40, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HCT08, MCP2562 and MCP7940. By type, the board carries 10 resistors, 8 capacitors, 4 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 crystals and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

Beagle Bone Black with a Bus Connector

A Beagle Bone Black that can be connected to a bus.

The bus is a half-duplex multi-drop bus that runs at 500 Kbps. It uses a Microchip MCP2562 CAN bus transceivers to connect to the bus.

The schematic can be found in the reva folder as busraspberrypi.pdf`.

The power comes in on either N1 or N2. These two connectors are "daisy-chained" so that power can be routed to other boards. The power goes through Q1 -- a P-channel MOSFET with a very low Rds. Q1 is used to prevent reverse polarity damage just in case the power comes in reversed. The power continues to N6 which is a 5V DC-to-DC power…

Bus beaglebone: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bus beaglebone use?

The Bus beaglebone is built around the ATMEGA324_DIP40, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Bus beaglebone PCB?

The Bus beaglebone measures 100 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bus beaglebone?

44 components, from 31 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bus beaglebone design files?

From the makerbus/bus_beaglebone repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bus beaglebone design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with makerbus. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Bus beaglebone without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
