About the Kim uno PCB
Kim uno is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by maxstrauch, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68 × 98 mm, with 36 components from 10 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 21 switches, 8 resistors, 2 battery holders, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 capacitor.
It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

A portable, software defined dev kit for (retro) microprocessors
Back in late 2018 it came to my mind, that I wanted to build a small portable microprocessor dev kit, just like the famous KIM-1 from MOS Technology, Inc. and designed by Chuck Peddle who was also involved in creating the 6502 CPU.
Therefore, I designed the KIM Uno as a portable device, which fits in one hand and is powered by two CR2032 batteries. It uses the ATMega328p ("Arduino") microcontroller running at 8 MHz to emulate (or simulate) a desired CPU. This architecture also makes sure, that the emulated CPUs are…

Kim uno: common questions
What microcontroller does the Kim uno use?
The Kim uno is built around the ATMEGA328P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the Kim uno PCB?
The Kim uno measures 68 × 98 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Kim uno?
36 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Kim uno design files?
From the maxstrauch/kim-uno repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Kim uno design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with maxstrauch. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Kim uno without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
