About the Guitar pedal PCB

Guitar pedal is an open source ESP32 PCB design by MaxTeicheiraUCSC, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 150 × 102 mm, with 107 components from 48 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3 SuperMini A, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Electro-Smith Seed3, TI OPA1652AIDR and Diodes AP63205WU-7. By type, the board carries 36 capacitors, 34 resistors, 10 connectors, 7 diodes, 6 ICs and 5 inductors.

It belongs with the audio, iot & wireless and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

DSP guitar pedal (Daisy Seed3 + ESP32-C3): tremolo/delay/reverb/fuzz, emulator, SPICE validation, KiCad board

Daisy Seed3 + ESP32-C3 stereo pedal with a reorderable four-effect chain, five momentary footswitches, a shared six-knob bank, global high/low-cut toggles, and BLE-MIDI / WiFi web-UI control. Design rationale, research and the phased plan are in docs/design.md; the control protocol in docs/midi-map.md.

Handover: docs/STATUS.md (what is and is not verified, next steps) and docs/LEARNINGS.md (the non-obvious things this cost time to find).

Guitar pedal: common questions

What microcontroller does the Guitar pedal use?

The Guitar pedal is built around the ESP32-C3 SuperMini A, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Guitar pedal PCB?

The Guitar pedal measures 150 × 102 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Guitar pedal?

107 components, from 48 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Guitar pedal design files?

From the MaxTeicheiraUCSC/guitar_pedal repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Guitar pedal design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MaxTeicheiraUCSC chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Guitar pedal without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
