About the ReSDMAC PCB

ReSDMAC is an open source FPGA PCB design by mbtaylor1982, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 38 × 38 mm, with 35 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the 10M02SCU169C8G, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the LM1117-3.3, SN74CBTD16210, PLCC_84_plug and Super_DMAC_socket. By type, the board carries 24 capacitors, 8 ICs and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

Verilog code to replace the Commodore SDMAC found in the A3000

ReSDMAC is an independent, open-source community project to develop an FPGA-based replacement for the SDMAC 390537 used in Commodore Amiga 3000 computers.

The project has been a community effort, with the PCB design by Jorgen Bilander and the Verilog implementation by Mike Taylor. The project began as an exercise in reverse engineering the behaviour and interfaces of the SDMAC so that ageing or failed devices in original hardware could be replaced with a modern implementation.

ReSDMAC: common questions

What microcontroller does the ReSDMAC use?

The ReSDMAC is built around the 10M02SCU169C8G, from the FPGA family.

How big is the ReSDMAC PCB?

The ReSDMAC measures 38 × 38 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ReSDMAC?

35 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ReSDMAC design files?

From the mbtaylor1982/ReSDMAC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ReSDMAC design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which mbtaylor1982 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ReSDMAC without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
