About the Esp prog PCB

Esp prog is an open source PCB design by mschwingen, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 30 × 19 mm, with 8 components from 6 distinct parts.

By type, the board carries 4 resistors, 2 transistors and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

This small PCB is an add-on for a standard CP2102 USB-to-serial dongle that adds the reset/programming circuit required to upload new firmware without manual interaction so that the target board needs no extra parts except for the programming connector. Since there does not seem to be a standard programming connector pinout, I decided to use a 2*3 pin connector, with VCC/GND/Reset on the same positions as on an AVR ISP connector. There are THT and SMD versions - THT was basically used to document the wired prototype.

Esp prog: common questions

How big is the Esp prog PCB?

The Esp prog measures 30 × 19 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp prog?

8 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp prog design files?

From the mschwingen/hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp prog design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mschwingen. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
